UNDER THE WATER

Poem: Alasdair Gray © 2005

We will all go down into the streets of water
and lose each other among the fluid crystal.
When bodies join their reflections both end
.......................................but it is common knowledge
that bones and memories lie under the stream
..........stirred by the moving water
when the heart is nowhere.

Ach, Carole, my heart aches that its ache for you must end.
Dead regrets have no taste,
under the water is neither sweet nor sour and
your sweet belly will become
only this memory.
