12 – TALES FROM THE POLISH WOODS

Poem: Alasdair Gray © 2005

Our Party’s final solution to this problem was

childishly simple but could not all be solved at home

it would have frightened our children –

so we did it in Poland.

Had all gone according to plan

nothing unpleasant would have been seen

or remembered by sensitive folk

but our Party lost a war.

So sights too vile to be seen were seen,

tales too vile to tell got told

and now must be seen, must be told forever.
