3 – WAITING IN GALWAY

Poem: Alasdair Gray © 2005

Kneel

pressing brow to floor, elbows to knees,

hands to ears strangely comforted

waiting for blows.

Kneel pressing hands, comforted, waiting for blows.

Stand

looking out with quick eyes, ears,

ready tongue, hands, feet, strangely helpless

waiting for blows.

Stand looking ready, helpless, waiting for blows.

Sit

sipping Guinness with Morag. Dominoes click

being snugly, easily guided,

waiting for blows.

Sit sipping being, guided, waiting for blows.
