mystery of generations

it's just that generational thing when

they give you that look; that shake of the head
never able to value all the things you know,
the things you knew, the same things
they know now, only differently,
– this passionate succession
of re-discoverers –
just
like we were, and
our parents and theirs, and
theirs grasping, out of the blue, what
the others had always known. How we
managed it this far is a mystery of generations
“but,” they say, “we’re here now, all will be good,”

and on it goes again, old man.
