Maggie and the Little Pollok Carpet

Early next morning Maggie was working at her new job cleaning dishes in the scullery. It was a very busy place with other servants were coming and going. The work was hard, but she was happy and had a feeling of excitement as she thought about her adventure during the last night – she was sure it had all been a fantastic dream, but it had felt so real!
She heard Miss Adair, the Housekeeper, come into the kitchen. She was talking to a man. It was Sir John, the Master of the House. Maggie looked around and saw, trailing behind them, a young girl about two years older than Maggie. She was slim with short blonde hair. It was Ann, Sir John's young daughter. While the adults began talking with Ivy the cook, Ann walked over to where Maggie was working.
