"Are
you Maggie, the new girl?" asked Ann.
"Yes, ma'am," said Maggie remembering to point her eyes at the
ground and not to look at her.
"It's okay, you don't have to look away," said Ann. "I'm
Ann, my father owns the Estate. Are you settling in okay?"
"Yes, ma'am," said Maggie nervously, finding it difficult to
look up at her.
"Though so," said Ann smiling, "I put my little carpet
in your room to try and make you feel welcome. Did you like it? It's the
little one with the symbols around the edge."
Ann winked, "It's my special wee rug."
"Ann," called Sir John, "we're leaving."
"Coming father," replied Ann as she turned and walked away.
Suddenly, Ann stopped and looked around. "Maggie," she said,
smiling, "you smell like custard, by the way!"
Maggie caught her breath and blushed, "maybe it wasn't a dream at
all," she thought.
