She steered the carpet
away from the stables and flew around the House. She then flew over the
woodlands of the estate and out over the city.
Below her she could see the rooftops of the houses, and the narrow cobbled
streets bathed in the moonlight, and the little twinkles of the gas lamps
along the main roads.
There were no people around everyone, even the night workers, seemed
to be fast asleep.
Everywhere Maggie flew she could see only animals looking up at her silently
waving and wagging their tails.
