Lamb Stillborn
We came upon you
suddenly
lying on grass ...
I watch
as Gerry turns you over
birth membrane clings
umbilical cord raw
protrudes
there
eyes that will never see
lugs that will never hear
legs that will never gangle
a mouth that can never suckle
A few hours ago
a mothers heart pumped
natures red fuse through
your veins
was she glad to feel your
small perfect body
grow & move
inside her belly
was she proud to be
making you?
|
she grieves now
like any mother
at her loss which is you.
What flaw I wonder
causes you to lie here
cold .......stiffening
when it is your
time to live?
I watch
as Gerry rolls you back ...
we walk on;
leave you for crow.
